Mettercela tutta è una locuzione piuttosto popolare in italiano e vuol dire fare il possibile, impegnarsi al massimo, agire con grinta, usare tutte le proprie energie per raggiungere un certo obiettivo. In altre parole significa, avere abnegazione e dedizione verso qualcosa che si sta facendo: “Ce l’ho messa tutta per cucinare una cena deliziosa”.

A livello puramente letterale, la locuzione mettercela tutta potrebbe tradursi come: To put in it all. Questo insieme di parole non ha nessuna forza espressiva nella lingua inglese, nelle quale il medesimo concetto può essere trasmesso mediante l’espressione, "to give it your all", "to do your best".

Esempio 1:

Oggi ce l’ho messa tutta per arrivare in ufficio prima delle otto del mattino, ma sono rimasto bloccato nel traffico e, purtroppo, non ce l’ho fatta.
Today I gave it my all to get to the office before eight in the morning, but I got stuck in traffic and, unfortunately, I did not make it.

Esempio 2:

Anche se ultimamente non è riuscito a studiare per colpa di una brutta influenza, Marco mi ha promesso che ce la metterà tutta per prendere un buon voto all’esame di matematica.
Even if lately he hasn’t managed to study because of a bad flu, Marco promised me that he will give it his all to get a good grade in the math exam.

Esempio 3:

Al primo allenamento ho detto ai miei compagni che se quest’anno vogliamo vincere il campionato di pallavolo, dobbiamo mettercela tutta in ogni singola partita.
At the first training I told my teammates that if this year we want to win the volleyball championship, we must give it our all at every single match.
